Recovery 6 : unified recovery for Galaxo and GAOSP

New recovery released today, version 6.0.

It’s an unified recovery, both for Galaxo and GAOSP, with little improvment and fix :

  • Unified recovery for Galaxo and GAOSP
  • Easy-to-install with only 2 zip file to flash (rom and gapps)
  • Wipe also dbdata partition
  • Updated kernel with ext4 support

Be careful : on Galaxo, it will work only with new way to restore gapps (using a simple .zip update, like for roms, will be introduced with Galaxo 1.6.3.4 which is not released yet).

Camera on GAOSP-FROYO : first step is done, preview and video are working now.

An interesting new for those who wait for camera on gaosp since a long time, nopy, who joined the gaosp team since a few time, is working on this feature, and the first step is done : we have the preview and video !

Preview work fine, video works too, the quality is not pretty good, there is some aterfact, and camera app crash when you stop the recording, but it’s work !

The next step for nopy is to have it make photo, and fix the camera. I’m sure it will be available on gaosp soon.

GAOSP : Nightly build

Most people ask everyday how to build current GAOSP, how to fix some building issue..how to test.

I can understand that, you are hurry to test the unimaginable : froyo on Samsung Galaxy !

So, after a small story, from a small error given by a nice chinese guy who published his own build as public beta 3 (people didn’t understand how a public beta can be so bugged, in fact, it was not the real public beta 3), i decided to implement a sort of Nightly build. In reality, initially, it will not be “nightly” build, but, time to time build, at least one build a week. Then, we will implement an automatic process.

Be carefull with those nightly build. I will not provide any support on them. You’ll flash it at your own risk.

Galaxo 1.6.3.3

New version for Galaxo : 1.6.3.3 ! What’s up ? … TetherWifi is back !

Sometimes, we seek for something complicated.. kernel, drivers, device…and the solution is very simple : firmware.

Since Donut, Samsung had removed ad-hoc support, not from kernel, or drivers, or Android itslef, but only from the firmware, named rtecdc.bin. Cupcake version of the firmware work fine for our use, so, why not using it on Donut release ?

That’s done now.

How to install tetherwifi on Galaxo 1.6.X ?

1) Manuel way

  • Take rtecdc.bin from a cupcake release (official or not)
  • Push it on your device, named as /system/etc/rtecdc_adhoc.bin
  • Download and install the last version of tetherwifi, included Galaxy support, and third party firmware support, 2.0.2, here : http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/.
  • Enjoy TetherWifi !

2) Recommended : Automatic update to Galaxo 1.6.3.3 from Galaxo 1.6.3.2 (no need to wipe, no need to reinstall, just a patch)

2) Full 1.6.3.3 update

Take a look at : http://www.drakaz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=1048

Enjoy !

Many thanks to Harald, one developper of TetherWifi, for his great job on the last version of TetherWifi with third party firmware support, and for his reactivity.

Please also consider the very great job of TetherWifi team : http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/.
